How common is American country music in the UK?

What Chair? asked the question:

Just out of curiosity, is American country popular at all for you folks across the pond?

I personally love Celtic music and I wondered if you guys enjoyed my folk music.

Brits’ answers only, please.

Not so much…we’ve heard of people like Tim McGraw, but it’s not all that popular.

Even British folk music isn’t that popular here, so American stuff isn’t going to transfer too well.

I have like 3 songs on my computer that are country music…and I have thousands of songs on here…to be honest I think American music in general is becoming a lot less popular over here. We’ve got so many good British artists around that they are getting more and more of the airplay on our radios.

Depends which era you mean. And is there a difference between folk and country?

I can think of John Denver, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul and Simon. Like I said, though, I don’t know if they’d count as country or folk

It’s not that common here, we do get some country artists coming over but not many. I love american country, my friends look at with with strange faces lol I grew up listening to it thanks to my dad and it’s kinda stuck. BBC Radio 2 to have special country shows that they broadcast, love it! :)

In the UK, Celtic music is considered to come from Scotland or Ireland rather than the US.
