Is there anybody here that actually prefers the new country music to the old?

concreta asked the question:

I like the old country music too but I just prefer the new stuff over it.(80s, 90s, 2000) I always hear people saying how much they hate the new country, and love the old. I was just wondering if there’s anybody else out there that likes the new country better? Again, I don’t dislike old country, just prefer the new.

The “old” country music was just that…country. The new country music today is more “pop” sounding. I like them both. Music is constantly evolving. That is what keeps it interesting.

I like the newer stuff but I think the older music was more like storytelling.

I prefer the old. It’s not around anymore, but the new stuff is like older pop music all over again. It doesn’t have the old country sound to it. The artists that do have it aren’t as popular like Cooder Graw, Kevin Fowler, and even Miranda Lambert and Jamey Johnson. It’s all about Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.

The thing I like more about modern country is that, in most cases, there are more complex chord progressions. I mean, in classic country, many of the songs are just a few simple chords. With modern country, it’s kind of more like what rock bands were doing after the Beatles came around–they incorporated more jazz-like chord progressions.

I really don’t understand how people can say that they hate all of modern country or all of classic country. Personally, I like both but I am a bigger fan of some modern country artists–mainly Brad Paisley, for his guitar playing and humorous songs.

i think that they are both wonderful. daddy calls new country “electric haystack”. but new country is more “todayish” you know?

so i prefer new country but of course i dont mind the oldies (:

    hope this helped (:
