Is folk music the same thing as country music?
i.like.myooz asked the question:
I hate country music. But I love Tom Morello’s solo stuff. And he calls himself a folk artist. Does his music count as country music? Are country and folk the same genre??

they are sometimes similiar and some songs can be both but they are two different genres completley
Folk and Country are not even close to the same genre in some cases. Country music is American Southern and Western music, Folk music can be music from any part of the world.
Examples of Folk (that doesn’t sound like country):
also songs like Amazing Grace are considered folk songs. Folk really just means Traditional music of a culture.
that’s like asking are rhythm and blues the same as rock and roll..not really, but their roots are similar. country music (you hate it, but if you listened to the to some of the classics, i.e. jimmie rogers, the carter family, you might see the similarities with that and folk music). the root of country music is appalicia.the times were hard, and their music reflected that. the instruments were basic, guitars, fiddles, banjos…pretty the same as folk singers. i agree with you, today’s country music isn’t too good.
