How can we get BBC Radio 2 back to playing some decent American country music rather than the present rubbish?
dutchman asked the question:
Best live act I saw was Don Williams in the Kelvin hall Glasgow,(1970s). By the attidude of the powers that be country music fans of the UK and others, are missing out on some damn good music. I have the feeling that, for the forseeable future we will have to suffer the awful nonsense that our illustrious British Broadcasting Corporation passes off as “Country Music”. Please ” bring back CMT television for UK viewers

I have sad news for you. The “present rubbish” they’re playing is most likely what is passing off as “country music” here in the States! There are an untold number of fans here uttering the same complaint about the garbage Nashville is churning out under the guise of country music.
I’ve heard a number of country legends say they love to tour in the UK because the people there are very loyal and they’ll have people of all ages in their shows. Here in America, the country legends are totally ignored — until they die, then they get a little lip service (e.g., Porter Wagoner and Hank Thomposn, both of whom died within two weeks of each other from lung cancer late last year) about how “great” they were.
It’s a sad situation, and I’m sorry to see, based on your question, that apparently we’re exporting the WORST of our music instead of the BEST.
I’m from the USA, but I do have some suggestions that might be helpful. Try writing to or calling your local radio stations, tv cable company, and/or tv stations (such as CMT), and suggest that they include more American Country Music on their stations, or that they bring back stations that they no longer offer. Another thing that might help is to get a group of people together who feel the same way, and all of you send letters/make phone calls. Sometimes, when one person has a complaint or suggestion, nothing is done about it, but if several people have the same suggestion or complaint, changes are made.
Good Luck!
