How popular is country music in Europe?

bootphysicsx10 asked the question:

Do people listen to country music in Europe?
Is it mainstream? Or is it a type of music more formerly enjoyed in just the States?

about as much as people here, some like it, most don’t.
they listen to a lot of the music we do, same artists and everything. of course they have their own music as well.

If you are talking about Southern US Country music then it is not very popular in Europe. It is available but it is certainly not aired on any radio stations (excluding a few stations that specialise in country) and you will not hear it on the tv music stations like MTV, Much etc.

Europe is very much into pop and dance.

You will find that in most countries outside of the USA country music is not popular. I live down under and it is almost non existant here apart from the really in your face popular stuff from big name artists, but even then, not so much listened to.

True country music has a large cult following (as do all other traditional American music forms) in Europe, particularly in eastern Europe and Scandinavia. I have no idea if the new “faux country” is popular.

Country music is considered as extremely white-bread in Europe and the people listening to it as well. There are fans and festivals and the music played there is usually unbearable.

I used to have the same opinion.

Today, I have to admit that there is some good country music but this is not really what the majority of the people over here are listening to.
