What country music is better: mainstream of non-mainstream?

KAHN asked the question:

I don’t listen to much country, and I’m curious:

Also, name me some quality albums that I can listen to and get into (I am a hip-hop buff but I want to have a better understanding of good, quality country music.)

Country music?

Firefly asked the question:

It’s amazing the ignorance that some people have towards country music. I actually used to be one of them. I used to think country music was for dumb rednecks and hicks. But one day, I pondered about it. I was tired of listening to the liberal punk trash on the radio, and I knew country music is mostly conservative. I started listening to Toby Keith, and I loved it. Moved on to Montgomery Gentry, then Big n Rich, then Tim McGraw, then Van Zant, and pretty soon, I was loving country music. My eyes were opened big time, it was a huge shock. Has anyone else noticed this sort of attitude toward country music? A lot of people that say they don’t like it have never really heard it or know what it’s really about.

Is there anybody here that actually prefers the new country music to the old?

concreta asked the question:

I like the old country music too but I just prefer the new stuff over it.(80s, 90s, 2000) I always hear people saying how much they hate the new country, and love the old. I was just wondering if there’s anybody else out there that likes the new country better? Again, I don’t dislike old country, just prefer the new.

Does anyone have the recipe for Chicken & Dumplings from the Oct. 1988 Country Music magazine?

DeDe asked the question:

I used to get the Country Music magazine, and there was a recipe for Chicken and Dumplings. It was in an article about a lady that cooks on a river boat. The cover of the magazine was orange. That was the best recipe for chicken and dumplings that I have ever made but through several moves, the magazine was lost. I have tried checking online for back issues, but I cannot find it.

The recipe had homemade (noodles) dumplings made from the stock that the chicken was cooked in, and cream of chicken soup was added to it near the end.

I remember a lot of the ingredients and I have tried to recreate it several times, but it just isn’t the same.

Please help!

Have you ever actually sat down and listened to old American Country and Western Music?

Collie asked the question:

I never really knew anything about American Country music. I came across some old Hank Williams stuff and…..Wow, I have never…I don’t even know how to say it. Amazing… I cannot believe how ignorant I was, ha ha. To everyone out there, have you really ever sat and listened to that older American stuff? No musician has ever made me cry, not even close. But Hank Williams literally left me in tears. Unbelievable.
